However the field of Sustainable Robotics is more than just the application area. For every application that robotics can improve in sustainability, you have to also address the question – what are the additional costs or benefits all the way along the supply chain. What are the'externalities', or additional costs/benefits, of using robots to solve the problem. Solving our economic and environmental global challenges should not involve adding to the existing problems or creating new ones.

Regarded as cutting-edge innovations a few years ago, now Fintech solutions are a daily reality. According to McKinsey, 80% of traditional financial institutions were exploring innovations in 2018.

Over the course of the last two years, we interviewed mayors, city officials, urban planners, academics, and citizens in cities around the world to identify the trends that are making urban living more sustainable, affordable, and human. One theme that emerged was cities' increasingly important role in ensuring the health and well-being of their residents.4 Cities currently represent just 3% of the world's territory but harbor 55% of the world's population. By 2050, it's estimated that 70% of the world's population will live in urban centers.5 At an economic level, cities generate around 80% of the global GDP,6 and are responsible for 80% of energy consumption and more than 70% of carbon emissions and global waste.7

Reinforcement Learning is a subfield of Machine Learning in which an agent explores an environment to learn how to perform specific tasks by taking actions with a good outcome and avoiding those with a bad one. A reinforcement learning model will learn from its experiences and will identify which actions lead to the best rewards. In reinforcement learning, the agent takes action based on the state of the environment, and the environment will return the reward and the next state. The agent employs a trial and error method to learn. It initially takes random actions and identifies which actions lead to long-term rewards over time.

So as we reflect on our aspirations and indeed resolutions for 2022 and the'moments which matter' to take forward from last year, the rise in prominence of Sustainability as a core component of business model evolution, alongside – the Diversity, Equality, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) – continuum is personally very much front of mind. Especially building on attending events such as COP26, the Social Innovation Forum, Re:Invent and now CES2022 where this has been center stage.

With the recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPPC) report painting a worrying picture of our battle against climate change, we will explore five ways analytics can help turn the tide. In the run up to Dreamforce 2021 in September, Salesforce announced new capabilities for Einstein Automate as well as new AI-driven workflows and RPA capabilities for Service Cloud . Prior to Dreamforce 2021, I had a chance to talk with Clara Shih, CEO of Service Cloud at Salesforce, about how the cloud-based software company sees automation and AI transforming, and actually humanizing, customer service. So let's talk automation, AI, RPA and how that relates to the Service Cloud and how that's kind of changing how organizations approach their interactions with their customers. Because I know that automation is a large part of many organization's digital transformation processes.
